Reading Comprehension Activities
I use these to work on reading comprehension. I print and laminate these boards and use masking tape on the back of the pieces. That way students can place the pieces in the book on the items. It helps my students to work on looking back for information and to have a visual to refer to. These are now in my teacherspayteachers store.
iPads in the Classroom
So I am super lucky to have 5 ipads in my classroom. One was given to me by the school, another donated by a parent and then I got my 3 mini iPads through DonorsChoose. I love DonorsChoose and have gotten so many awesome projects funded through them! They are absolutely amazing!
So how I use these iPads in my classroom:
1. So use them to teach group lessons so I can differentiate between each ipad. For example we were just doing place value. I used the Number Pieces Basic App. I was able to assign each student a number from ones to hundreds so they could build the number using the manipulatives. I had another student then writing out the expanded form on there as it is a white board as well. Some students I verbally said the number so they had to write it and build it. I love this as it keeps my students motivated and interested while targeting their math level. I do wish there were one that went to the thousands place though. You can also use this for working on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

2. I bought a VGA cable to hook my ipad up to our tech station, so my projector projects its image on the board. I have all my students sit around so they can see. I use this for interactive stories or group activities. For a group activity I have them come up to the iPad one at a time for their turn and that way everyone can watch what is happening. I do this for new lessons or math games where I have kids on similar levels or where I can easily change the difficulty.
3. I found apps that target IEP goals so I can have students working on them independently at one of my assistants stations while they work with or two students on a goal, area of need or activity. I have a list printed out for my assistant with which apps are for which students.
4. I use the iPad at morning circle for the weather app. My students use it to check the temperature out side and then find it on our poster to say ow that feels and what they should wear. I use it for learning songs on youtube (that I have previously viewed to make sure it is appropriate).
